DOTDAY XBAR is a 5 oz dual-layer landscape fabric for use under gravel, pavers, driveways, walkways, patios, parking pads and other high-traffic hardscape. It has a woven polypropylene top over a needle-punched non-woven backing, which blocks the light weeds need. It is UV-stabilized, with 70% of strength retained after 500 hours of UV exposure (ASTM G154). Printed 12 in guide stripes help keep rows, cuts and overlaps straight, and sealed edges resist fraying.

Building a gravel path or paver walk? XBAR keeps stone out of the soil.

Best for: Gravel driveways, Paver and hardscape base, Walkways and patios, Parking pads, High-traffic areas, Equipment yards.

Install Tips:  Excavate and compact the subgrade. Woven side up. Use the printed stripes to keep cuts straight. Overlap 12 inches and pin. Add base and gravel without driving directly on bare fabric.

XBAR is a 5 oz dual-layer fabric: a woven polypropylene top bonded to a non-woven needle-punched backing. It is engineered for load and separation under hard surfaces - gravel, rock, pavers, and hardscape - where a lightweight weed barrier would pump and tear.

Best Jobs for an Irrigation Customer

  • Gravel paths and dry creek beds next to drip zones
  • Rock beds and xeriscape where spray heads are swapped for drip
  • Paver walkways, patios, parking pads and pet runs
FAQs
  • Can drip tubing go under or over the fabric? Over is easiest for maintenance: lay SHIELD, run drip on top, then mulch. Emitters stay accessible.
  • Which fabric for a French drain? TERRA. Woven fabrics like SHIELD are not made for filtration. Use 4 oz for typical yard drains, 6 oz for heavier soils or longer runs.
  • Which fabric under gravel? XBAR. SHIELD is for mulch and is not rated for stone loads.
  • Does water pass through? Yes, all three are permeable. TERRA and XBAR carry published flow rates.
  • How do I secure it? Overlap seams and secure with landscape staples. Rolls ship as fabric only.
  • Where are the specs? thedotday.com/technical-data-sheets. Values are typical, not MARV.
